1. OVERVIEW
About
OdpadekAPP is a voice-powered mobile assistant that helps users in Poland instantly identify how to properly dispose trash. By speaking or typing any item (like “plastic bottle” or “old batteries”), the app helps to choose which color-coded bin to use, where the nearest recycling or PSZOK collection points are, and reminds users when to put bins out for collection. The interface is clean, fast, and visually playful, inspired by retro black & white cartoon art combined with bold, purple-accented modern UI.
Challenge
Creating OdpadekAPP required merging serious ecological purpose with playful design.
Key challenges included:
– Crafting a trustworthy yet fun aesthetic merging retro cartoon visuals with modern bold typography and accessibility-friendly contrast.
– Designing speech recognition flows that feel fast and intuitive, even for non-tech users.
– Balancing national coverage (PSZOK data, local municipalities) with local accuracy.
– Building brand tone that encourages sustainable behavior without guilt or boredom.

3. VISUAL SYSTEM
Typography & Colors
1. Bold headlines font to be readable and fun at the same time, it also needed to be in comic style. Poppins is a seasoned font for inApp body texts, modern, clean and reasy to read for anyone.
2. Many colors were taken due to color coding for garbage. Only purple, pink and orange are not in color coded use by city services. Purple fitted best for Brand color with best contrast and option to be used as a background color. Then I assigned remaining two colors for PSZOK sites and big containers placed around the cities.

3. VISUAL SYSTEM
Illustrations
The goal was to make fun memorable and bold characters which speak to all audiences. Retro “Disneylike” style appeals to both young and older users. Also such characters and images are great for any kind of animations or microanimations.
